They must keep Dusty and do what ever it takes whether that be more money, higher tenure, whatever. Do not let him go! He is brilliant!

As far as the coaching goes, I think they would be wise to bring in a guy who still preaches defense but is less restrictive on players and can adapt and tweak to each game and team. I'd like Mike Babcock to coach, hehe.

Irony is Dallas had the #11 pick in the 2010 draft, and chose Campbell. Ducks at #12 chose Fowler. Thank you Dallas.

fowler was a potential top 3, top 5 pick that year. how he fell to 12 was pretty amazing.

I agree about Montgomery. A system that works with a bunch of speedy, ~20yo college kids is not necessarily one that'll work with a bunch of veteran NHLers who are nearing (or past) 30yo and slowing down. LA doesn't have the speed or energy to hound the puck and any opposing player who has it.

I think that what they may need is a system that stresses movement (not necessarily speed, but motion), positioning and passing. That's not unlike what they're used to, as Sutter's system stressed something similar in the defensive and neutral zones, but they need to apply that to the offensive zone, as well. Instead of just putting everything on net and hoping that the percentages work out, they should be a bit more creative, get open for passes and get the goaltenders moving so that they have more net to shoot at and don't have to be terrific finishers to pick the corners. For example, after entering the zone and drop-passing the puck to the trailer, instead of going to screen the goalie for a low percentage point shot, get open for a pass on either the side of the goalie.

You don't have to have speedy players to play more of an East-West game that stresses creativity, criss-crossing and passing over end-to-end skating. This team may seem like they're not creative, but that could've been Sutter's coaching more than anything. I think that a creative East-West system could work with the current players (in time, as they kick their uncreative habits) and should become even more effective if Blake molds the team into a faster one (and his first signing, this Iafallo kid, might be a clue that he will).

Well, the only position higher than his is Ranford's.

Whatever they did with Futa and Stevens they must do with Dudty. Do not let him leave under any circumstsnces.
